Gabor was born in Szeged Hungary in
1970. Szeged is the largest southern most city in Hungary. His family
emigrated to the United States in 1983, arriving in Illinois. He studied
at the American Academy of Art from 1989 to 1992. He was fortunate to
study with nationally recognized watercolorist Irving Shapiro at the
academy, where the students learned about composition, design and
drawing. Gabor has fond memories of his grandmother, who was an artist.
In her studio, he saw his first original painting and the smell of oil
paint still reminds him of her. He credits her as being a great
inspiration and influence in his life. Gabor studied life drawing and
illustration for two years . He joined The Palette & Chisel in 1994,
where he took a workshop with Scott Burdick.
Since then, he has taken workshops with
Matt Smith and Robert Moore. Gabor’s travels have taken him to many
states across the West. He has a deep appreciation and love of the
spectacular mountains and great open spaces found along the Western
United States where he sets up his easel for the joy of painting en
plein air.
